Part 2 of this strange part of my life begins shortly after I returned from my summer vacation in Louisiana back in 2000. I almost had got a free HDR from someone in a Yahoo! based time-travel discussion group. I was declined for being a minor..well poop. I was about to begin my freshmen year of High School and my interest in this time machine as well as other “fringe” topics began to increase. I mailed the inventor, Steven Gibbs a letter asking all sorts of questions, and in just a few days I had a response.
My response came in a large envelope and this was very exciting for my young self. I was corresponding with a time traveler! I got a package from a time traveler! I opened the package and what was inside was..not what I expected. There was no letter, or anything even remotely answering any of my questions. What I got was a stack of stapled papers with the title, “Time Travel Catalog.” (Which by the way, this is only response you will ever get from this man if you decide to mail him.) I was a little bummed, but decided to look through the catalog. Inside was of course information on the HDR. Aside from that were Reports you could purchase for about $20 each which detailed how to construct other types of time machines. Apparently, there are MANY ways to time travel..according to Mr.Gibbs anyway. Stuff like Atlantean Crystal Generators and even one on how to build the HG Wells style time machine. He also sold cassette tapes of his times as a guest on the Art Bell:Coast to Coast show and books written about him by author Patricia Ress.
Shortly after I received my time travel catalog, my first year in High school began. During this time I had the usual woes, anxieties, and girl stuff like any other kid in High School with the addition of a then secret to a majority time machine obsession. A few of my friends knew, but mostly I kept to myself about it. I felt it was a strange thing to be obsessed about it. I remember one kid seeing stuff I had written down in my folder commented that I was like Donnie Darko. I did not want to be the weird kid in school, although at the time everybody else was probably worried about everybody else thinking about them.
One night when I had the house to myself, I decided to give the inventor a phone call. I had waited when I had the house to myself because I was worried about what my father would think. The phone rang a couple of times and sure enough Steven Gibbs answered. His voice didn’t necessarily sound crazy, but I always thought there was a sort of strangeness to it. When I had called him, he was actually in the process of building one of his machines. Rolling an electromagnet if I recall correctly. We talked for a bit, told me a story of how one guy used his time machine to go into the past but the machine seemingly didn’t work. Later on this man went to take a bath and at that time, the “energies” took effect and the guy was sent back in time naked. Steven Gibbs had quite a laugh telling this story. He told me a few more stories, which I don’t remember and then he said something about the Christ Consciousness beamed him the information on how to build time travel devices. …………It was at that point that I began to seriously, seriously question the sanity of this man. That statement didn’t necessarily scare me, but I was shocked. Shortly after that, he told me he would not sell me a time machine until I was at least 18. He had a strict policy against selling to minors, but he said I was free to purchase anything else from the catalog.
At this point, or even way before this point most people would have dropped it. However, I did not. A few months later I would come into a small amount of money and would actually purchase a few items from the Time Travel catalog. See ya next time!
Next time: Quartz crystal pendulums(for real this time), the 10th key to the Riddle of time, and Men In Black!
http://www.v-j-enterprises.com/timetrav.html Here is the known interview with Steven Gibbs. Please note that how he obtained the information on how to build time machines is completely different from what he told me in our phone conversation. The story changes at least one other time that I know of too.
